Golden Milk, anyone?
I will admit it - when the "tumeric" trend appeared a few years back, I did NOT hop on that bandwagon with glee like the rest of the world. In fact - I was kind of skeptical of this yellow pigmented spice and all it's wonderfulness (so the internet clearly thought). What's the big deal, anyway?
Well Susan, get ready to learn things about tumeric you NEVER dreamed of knowing. 😂
The most widely known benefit of tumeric is that it's got powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce inflammation of the joints and in areas of swelling or pain. The actual ingredient within tumeric that contains the anti-inflammatory properties is called "curcumin". There isn't a whole lot of curcumin found within tumeric (approximately 3% by weight) - but regular consumption may prove beneficial in the long run.
For someone like myself who currently has chronic whiplash syndrome which causes pain in the upper part of my neck and spine - not to mention overall tension & stiffness - the anti-inflammatory properties of tumeric can certainly help that area.
You can read more on tumeric & its properties here.
Now, let's make a delicious iced beverage, shall we?!
What you'll need
First, gather all the following ingredients:
- 1-2 cups milk of your choice (I chose almond)
- 1 tsp ground tumeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- Pinch of clove (if desired)
- Pinch of nutmeg (if desired)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp maple syrup (or honey, to sweeten)
- Handful of ice
Step 1 -
Add the milk to your blender (or tumbler, if blender not available)
Step 2 -
Add maple syrup (or honey) along with vanilla extract.
Step 3 -
Add all your spices.
Step 4 -
Blend for about 15-20 seconds until all ingredients combined.
Step 5 -
Add your ice, and add more milk to your glass (optional).
Step 6 -
Pour over your delicious golden milk mixture over your ice & milk and enjoy watching the beautiful colours blend themselves in.
And there you have it! Have I convinced you yet... Susan?! 😆
